“We found out I had Leukemia when I turned three. I have had lots of surgeries. I have slept with Mimi, my pink blanket, and Lolly, my bunny, since I was born. I can’t go anywhere without them. They go with me to the hospital and sleepovers.
Going through treatment was hard and it hurt when they put the needles in my chest for my port. I had to have stuff in me every day. They gave me ‘magic milk’ because it made me fall asleep. I would hold Lolly and Mimi and my mom would hold me as I slept. They gave me the magic milk to do things on me. I couldn’t eat or drink during those times so my mom wouldn’t eat or drink in front of me.
I turned ten in April and after what I have been through, I am not scared of anything but the dark. I had a chance of dying but I am glad I am alive and feel bad that other people have died from cancer. At my school we have Project Outreach and I want to get into it so I can work with kids with special needs. That is what I want to do when I grow up.”
