God is in his heaven and all is right with the world

“I bring Sadie here a couple of times a day to run in the park. I was born and raised in Mobile. My husband was in the military and we moved all over the place. I was ready to move back home. I write letters almost every day. Some to friends I met long ago. I am 83 and worked at the library until June of last year. Before that, I was with Legal Services Alabama that provides legal services for the indigent. It was rewarding, but it was hard to watch women get a divorce because of domestic violence and then watch her go back to him because he said he wasn’t going to do it anymore. My daughter died a year ago of cancer. She was a problem child and caused me a great deal of grief. When she finally got her act together we became best friends the last few years of her life. We don’t give up on our kids. I always heard the parable of the prodigal son. It had much more meaning when she came back. I welcomed her home with open arms. She was loved and she knew it. Days like today remind me of a few lines in a poem, ‘God is in his heaven and all is right with the world’.”
