I have seen bikes held together by sticks, rocks, and duct tape

“Delta Bike Project started as an accident. We were going to open a shop just to tinker. As soon as we opened the doors, a couple of homeless guys walked in and needed help. The next time we opened, 20 people showed up. We realized there was a need in the community that was not being met by anyone and we changed to be an organization to help people in need. I have seen bikes held together by sticks, rocks and duct tape. We survive by selling used bikes to pay the rent and the overhead. My full-time job is marine biologist and I work with the bikes on Sunday and Tuesday, 20 hours a week, but it is worth it and it is such a simple way to help people. I get to know the people and watch them change their lives because of a bicycle.  Transportation is the most important service for the poor and the homeless, but it is often taken away. I would rather be doing this than sitting at home. This changes you.”
