I want to do something strong with what I create

April 24, 2017

“I have been studying art for 10 years and came to Havana to study it at the university. I started drawing with my mother and grandmother when I was small and it never stopped. In school, I learned more about materials, mediums and art history. Now I want to do something strong with what I create. Drawings are like notes and try to show human sides and help us analyze us as individuals and a part of society. The drawings try to analyze mental and spiritual states that come from memories. We are all human beings with personal histories and implications. You can show your personal history and some people have similar histories and can identify with it. The step by step process is hard sometimes. Art is important on the streets and in the galleries in Cuba. It has an ability to change something in people, maybe not a huge movement, but in a personal sense. Art can be a platform and medium that makes new interactions or creates a new point of view. It is important to talk with people, even the ones you don’t know. Art helps us understand each other.”
