I wanted to experience the circus feeling every day of my life and now I do

“I used to paint movie sets and had a lot of canvas drop cloth. Now I paint circus banners on them with tinted house paint. I did the circus banners for American Horror Story: Freak Show in season four. A carnival used to set up in the gravel flat lot behind my house. It was absolute nothingness then it was transformed into an epicenter of fun for a week. Then it disappears as quickly. Where did it go? I wanted to experience the circus feeling every day of my life and now I do. All of the carnies knew me and gave me free tickets and hot dogs and let me ride the rides for free or practice the game so I could get good at them. It was my circus. Those are my best memories and I loved the feeling of the lights and the music. I try to give other people the same vibe.”

“I like to do local mythology and folklore. I paint for the circus in my mind. I do a lot of burlesque artists, aerialists and acrobats, and firebreathers. I recently started fruit crate label art and twist them up. Cyclops Pig Brand Potatoes. I like animal oddities. My husband is cajun and wrote a song called ‘Devil Girl of the Bayou’ and now she is one of my characters. They are always a different scene.”

“I traveled as a bass player around the world for 25 years. I am from Canada and my first trip to the U.S. was to move to New Orleans and learn how to play. The first time I left New Orleans to travel, around the U.S. I realized the rest of the country was not like New Orleans and I wanted to go back. New Orleans is where I am supposed to be.”
