It took a hurricane to make our neighborhood care about each other

“Come break bread with us. We have been trying to feed everyone.  None of us in our neighborhood knew each other and we were on our own. Now we are helping each other. It has been amazing to see God’s presence in this trailer park the last four days compared to the last three years. We think we can take care of ourselves and don’t have to ask for help. A disaster humbles you to the point that you need help and as you seek it, more people come together. We just went out in my truck to get diapers and wipes for the ones who have babies. I have wanted to have a community like this since I moved here. One hand at a time passing to the next person can save a life. Handing a meal and something to drink to someone who hasn’t eaten in days gives them hope because someone cares about them. It took a hurricane that almost destroyed our neighborhood to make us care about each other.”
