My family releases balloons every Christmas Eve to remember Phillip

December 26, 2018

“Phillip was like Santa Claus. He had a sad childhood and I was an only child of affluent people. We met and had the most fun. We were married for 53 years and had six children. We were a military family and traveled everywhere. If anything went wrong, he was there to fix it. He passed away in 2009. My family comes to the pier every Christmas Eve to release blue balloons and remember him. Blue was his favorite color and he had beautiful blue eyes. He donated those eyes to a lady when he died and she sent me a letter thanking him for giving her the chance to see again. We were married in Bolivia because he was stationed there. I flew there with everything, but I didn’t have a bouquet. Someone overheard us talking about the bouquet and told us to come home with him and pick roses in his wife’s garden. I had the most beautiful bouquet filled with color. My gift from him was a sterling singer plaque of The Last Supper. I still have it. He was an amazing man and I miss him every day.”

My father Philip Lewis Caswell Sr. Is missed every day. I miss waking up in the morning and seeing him sitting on my porch waiting to have coffee with me. He was an honorable man and I miss him with all my heart and soul!

My dad was my best friend and I miss him terribly. It is comforting to know he is watching over all of us.

We were lucky to meet this lovely family and became lifetime long friends with them when Philip was stationed in İzmir, Turkey in 1974.. We were a newly married couple then and learned a lot from them about being a family… Now years passed by and eventhough we haven’t seen each other for years and unfortunately Phil passed away ; I still feel that my baby-faced Sister Shirley and handsome Brother with deep blue eyes very close in my heart …
P.S.Thank you as well..It has been a very touching moment to read their story coincidentally on your blog..
