My parents put me out when I was seven

“I grew up in the West Africa and came to the United States on a student Visa to go to college. My parents put me out when I was seven and I have had to navigate through life on my own. My dream is to go back home in five years and open an orphanage to help kids who lost parents at an early age and have no help, no connections, and are left behind, because that was my life too. I didn’t know anyone and didn’t speak any English when I arrived in New York. The change was night and day, but I made my way. I worked in restaurants while I went to school so I could pay for my education. My dad was sick and I had to pay his hospital bills, and that put me behind. I am a driver now and I have met so many beautiful people. I am here for a piece of the American dream that everyone talks about. America is a great country and I feel safe and free here. I have a lot of opportunities.”
