“We have been together for eight years and got married last December at the mission. It was exciting and we both cried. She looked so pretty walking down the aisle in her blue dress and I wore a black suit and we had grape drinks.”

“The day was confusing. I was so nervous and forgot everything I was supposed to do.”

“I have been homeless for 25 years. I lost my wife in 1980, and went all over the country hitchiking and by train. I worked labor jobs in different cities. I met her here 8 years ago and I stayed.”

“My brother and I were homeless and I went over to check on him and Ronald was there. The first time I met him, my brother said this will be your new husband.”

“Living out here is rough on her. Both of her knees are hurting and she has trouble breathing. Seeing new people come out here scares her. There is no where to bathe and she has to use wipes to keep clean.”

“Fear is the hardest part of living here. I feel safe when he is around. I go wherever he goes”

This story touched me deeply. It shows that even in homelessness, in emptiness, people can still love and care for one another. It was a sad story but an enlightening and encouraging story for me!
