The hardest part is getting an 800-pound alligator over the side of the boat

“It is mating season for alligators and they are looking for females. I can’t blame them. Gator-hunting season starts the last Wednesday of August. They are making their nests now and eggs will hatch the middle of August through early September. I started going out to hunt alligators with my family when I was 7 or 8. I am not scared of them. The hardest part is getting an 800-pound alligator over the side of the boat. You set the line with rotten chicken bait the night before. We use old chicken. If they have been on the line all night, they are tired by the time we get there and they will fight about 5-10 minutes. You have to shoot them in the right spot on the back of their head. The spot is about the size of a quarter. My family has 50 tags, but I go out with Troy and he has 500 tags. We will use all of those during the season and could use more. The rest of the year I hunt deer and fish here.”
