This trip is my daughters’ gift to me

“This is the next to last day of our road trip. This trip is my daughters’ gift to me.”
“We started out in Ohio and went to Nashville, New Orleans, Mobile, and Asheville, North Carolina. Our mom had knee surgery and has been out of commission for four months. She will go back to work soon, I have been working from home, and my sister has a flexible schedule. We have never had an opportunity to take a trip like this.”
“I just got driving privileges a week ago and said let’s go. I started getting bored. I knitted three baby blankets and I don’t have grandbabies. I wanted to see St. Patrick’s Day in New Orleans and we filled in the rest of the trip from there. I am in love with large bodies of water. If I die here, throw my ashes in the ocean. Everyone has been so nice. It means everything to be with my girls. I am blessed because they want to be with me.”
“We stood at the parade in New Orleans for five hours having cabbages, carrots, cucumbers, tchotchkes, and beads thrown at us. Mom caught a lemon and our last name is Lemon. It was karma. Standing at a parade that long was much more fun than I expected.”
“We have always been close. My sister is six years younger than me but she has always been my best friend.”
“Mom lived with each of us for a few weeks during her recovery and I didn’t want her to leave. We can have snow six months out of the year on Ohio. I wish I lived somewhere warmer and beautiful like this, but I don’t want to leave my family. I keep telling them we need to find a place warmer to live together. I don’t want to have kids without my mom and sister around.”
“Your kids need their favorite aunt close by.”
“I am retiring in August so I hope there will be more trips like this very soon. I am excited about retiring but the funds will be limited and I will be bored. I am sure I will find something else. I have been working since I was 13. I would clean houses and babysit for 50 cents an hour. I made it to a dollar an hour when I turned 15. I have always worked hard and I am thankful for this life.”
