When I got out of prison, I was bound and determined never to go back

“I went to prison for decades for being a fool. When I got out of prison I didn’t have anywhere to go but was bound and determined never to go back. I knew I was going to do something with my life, I just didn’t know what. I was homeless and saw all of the people in front of First Christian church. I asked what was going on and someone said they are feeding the homeless here today, so I went in. I got my food and started helping out. I kept coming back to eat and help and the next thing I know, I had a job and worked six months as a maintenance man. The Veteran’s Administration got me off the street. Now I have a home and am a full-time college student getting a degree in electrical engineering. I have my own car and my own Harley-Davidson. I enjoy myself but always remember where I came from. The Lord has done so much for me and I make sure I give back. I want to open a business and employ some of the guys who are homeless who want to do something with their lives and are willing to help themselves. It may take five or ten years to do this, but I want to give them a second chance like I had. I could not have done it without the people of this church. This is like a family. I could call on them at any time for anything and we will be there for each other.”

    What an inspiring story!

  2. Von Smith says:

I’m so happy for you, and proud of the choices you have made. With your sense of gratitude, instead of bitterness, and your striving with a servant’s heart, to do good for others, instead of a warped sense of entitlement, you have already begun to realize God’s love for you.
    God bless you!
