“I have pole-vaulted for four years. A lot of people were trying it and my coach didn’t pick me, so I went to another coach and started jumping. I am going into 11th grade in Baton Rouge. You need a lot of self-awareness of your body and the bar and know when to turn. My highest vault is 15.1 feet. The average for my group in high school is 13 feet. I was ranked in the top five last year. The meet in Mobile is my favorite meet of the year. It is amazing to jump downtown. This is the best runway and best crowd. Pole vaulting feels like flying. It is the most amazing feeling. I want to do this in college and go pro with it in Europe. Track is big there. It feels good to prove my first coach wrong.”
Good enough isn’t an option. It’s got to be the best I can do.
