It is here in Williamsburg that US history as we know it today starts. It is an honor to pass it down

“I enjoy this time period in our history. When I was 13 I came to Williamsburg for the first time. A lot of schools don’t teach US history and Hollywood misrepresents it. You need a place to accurately tell the story of the United States and it is here in Williamsburg that US history as we know it today starts. It is an honor to pass it down. If we remember how we got the blessings and rights that we enjoy today, the harder it will be to take them away from us. I have been working here for 10 years. My department is guest services and orientation. We can discuss any history topic you like. I like the architecture and the music. They have a two-month training when we are hired and go through winter training and special enhancement courses. I study on my own to get the rest of the story. There is a lot of humor and irony too. There are so many phrases that started in wig shops like this–blockhead, powder room, flip your wig, go soak your head. They meant something in the 18th century. So much started during that time and we need to remember it.”
