“I am moving to Fairhope. I left Indiana when I was 58. I had five children and when my youngest went to college and had a pity party and bought a little place in Costa Rica in ’99. I sold everything I had to get my son into college and was going to Costa Rica for three months to figure out what I would do next. My first night in Costa Rica was the first time I spent the night alone and had to take care of myself. I wanted to prove that I could be on my own. A lady there asked me what I was going to do next. She told me I better marry a rich husband or build bungalows. So I started building bungalows and it was number one on the trip advisor. I had to pay employees so I also cut hair too and became busy again. I sold it and made money on it when I met my next husband when he was vacationing in Costa Rica and moved to Atlanta with him. We were married for nine years. I got divorced in July and I am starting over again and moving to a house on the bay. The hardest part is remembering what I have to do and doing the things on the list. I need trees and water. I write and paint and being outside relaxes me. I want to get back to that stage again. It has been a hard year, but it will get better. I will be back here for good in November and I only know one person here. I wish I knew when I was 35 what I know now. You get smarter as you get older, but then you are too tired to do it all.”
