I came out of the womb playing drums

April 20, 2024

“I came out of the womb playing drums. l was always banging on something. I’m out here today for enjoyment. I play a lot of gigs, but I have to keep it fun. Playing drums is also a great way to relax and release stress. It’s even better playing outside around the water, grass and trees—being next to God in His natural force.

There are so many different types of music. I learned to be patient with myself and keep being a student. I play in churches and at gigs, but it’s hard to make a living doing this full-time. Things are jumping off the ground with my band Strikeout. We arrange songs with different beats—like if the DJ came to life as a band.

2023 was a tough year. God taught me commitment and patience; I’m turning things around. I’m returning to work in landscaping for the City of Fairhope. I stepped away from it two years ago—I wanted to do this job, but my hands didn’t. The vibrations of weed eaters, edgers, and trimmers sped up my carpal tunnel. I learned ways to cope and give my hands a rest. Being able to create in these two ways is a beautiful thing.”
