I have been homeless for two months with my three girls

January 28, 2021

“I have been homeless for two months with my three daughters. One of my girls was molested by my stepfather. DHR got involved and we had to leave. They would have taken my kids away if we stayed there. The daughter it happened to takes it one day at a time. My mama is still with him. It happened to my little sister too, who is his daughter by my mom. I wish when the truth comes out, people could admit it.

I work at Waffle House, but it is not enough. Things are getting harder. One of my daughters was sick from the Coronavirus, and I had to stop work for a while. I got a small unemployment check, but that went to my oldest daughter who is in college. My car just got towed because I couldn’t pay the note anymore. A friend picks me up and takes me to work. My kids go to her house while I am at work or her daughter comes over to watch mine.

This is the first time I have been homeless. We have had a motel room most of the time, but we have been in and out of other people’s houses. I am trying to get money for a room tonight.
I have to do things for money that I am not proud of, but I have to do what I can to take care of my girls. I was sheltered and never had to do any of this before. I thought we had a good life.”

I don’t know if you will see this, but if you do please talk to Family Promise and see if they can help you with housing. Phone – 251-441-1991. Even if you are not in the Mobile area they might could provide some information.
