“I have six kids and I am a single parent. We lost everything–clothes, shoes and our car. This is so stressful for us. We have noting to go home to. I am trying to hold up for my kids, but I am tired of being here. My kids are 7, 6, 5, 4, 2 and 1. It is hard. We were in our house when the flood came. They got us out on rescue boats. We were sleeping when our neighbor banged on the door. We walked outside and the front door step was covered with water. It took three hours for the rescue boat to get to us. We waited on top of my mama’s kitchen table. My brother and sister lost their stuff too. It is hard to sleep in the shelter. The meals aren’t good. I spent the last money I had left on food for my kids so they would eat something. They are trying to help us find a place stable, but that hasn’t happened yet. We are on a 10:00 p.m. bedtime curfew. That is crazy. I know they are trying to help us, but it feels like prison. We are stressed. Everyone in here has lost everything and they are in and out and back and forth. I just want to go home.”
