I made pretty bracelets and sold them to help sick kids and the homeless

January 27, 2023

“I feel bad for the homeless, and sometimes I cry when I see them. They don’t have anybody and don’t get gifts at Christmas. They are outside in the cold, and when it rains, they get wet. Sometimes they dig through the trash. I saw a homeless man with a dog and got my dad to give him money. I wanted him to use it for food for him and his dog, but he went into the liquor store. That made me sad. My parents told me we should give money to an agency that helps the homeless, and they heard about Driftwood Housing that is going to build tiny homes so people have places to live.

A few weeks ago, I made some pretty bracelets. I sold them and raised $130 dollars. I split the money between Driftwood Housing and the Ronald McDonald Housethey helped my family when my little brother and me were babies. I only went there for a couple of days, but when my  brother was born, my parents didn’t know if he was going to make it. That was the first time Mama was away from me. I remember going to the Ronald McDonald House to see her, so I wanted to give money to them, too. I also gave to St. Jude’s Cancer Research Hospital.

I am in the second grade. I try my best in school, and the best part of the day is PE because we play games and run. My favorite game is ‘Snack, cat. Go get those rats.’ I also like cheer and gymnastics.

At school I felt bad for a girl with a broken leg and tried to help her. I share my snacks with others who don’t have money for snacks or ice cream. Sometimes Mama gives me extra money for them.

I want to have three jobs when I grow up: a nurse, a dentist, and a tattoo artist. I will always find ways to help people.”
