Something a little different

Something a little different.

Our Southern Souls is presenting a fundraiser show at the the Frog Pond Sunday Social in Silverhill, Alabama. My first version of writing stories started ten years ago at the Frog Pond, so I try to keep giving back. The Frog Pond is a magic music venue Cathe Steele runs on her farm. She brings in the regions’ best songwriters to play at “Sunday Socials.” Everyone drops off a potluck dish in the farmhouse or a desert in the Sugar Shack, then sets up chairs around the stage. One of the best parts is when Cathe lights the candles at sunset.

The Souls show is Sunday, April 7th. The songwriters are Grayson Capps, Caroline Herring, Claire Holley, and Caitlin Cannon. Corky Hughes and Gram Rae are playing in the side.

Grayson Capps is one of the South’s best songwriters and every time hearing him is as good as the first time. Claire, Caroline, and I grew up within an hour of each other in Mississippi. I don’t know them, but their music has been in the soundtrack of my life for more than 20 years. We’ve been friends in my mind all of this time, and it’s been a dream to bring them to the Frog Pond. I heard Caitlyn Cannon for the first time at a house concert a few weeks ago. I loved her story so much that we were talking about Souls before she put her guitar down. We’re planning something a little different for her interview.

All of these songwriters are great storytellers. We are doing a Q&A about the South, songwriting, and finding their voices during the first part of the show.

The show starts at 3 p.m. Seat Donations are $40. Email Cathe to get on the reservation list: [email protected]. If you can’t come to this show, here’s a list of the Spring season. Music lovers need to make at least one trip to the Frog Pond.
