“I woke up at 7 on Saturday morning, the water was coming up really fast. It looked like an ocean. I got the attention of my neighbors and they backed in and picked me up with a few of my bags. It took a while to get off of Amite Church Road. Everyone was stopped, they didn’t know where to go. It happened so quick. 10 minutes later and we couldn’t have gotten out of the neighborhood. We made it to my neighbor’s daughter’s house, where I stayed the night. My son had to wait until he could get out. He picked me up the next day and we came back over here to see it. Water sat in my house for about 12 hours. I have lived in this house for forty years, around the same neighbors. It is painful, but everyone is reaching out and helping each other. God is in control and I give him the glory. I am staying with my son, but I have brothers and sisters who are reaching out and will share their home. Everyone is helping and I already have a refrigerator coming. People are here at night and helping clean. The family Bibles were saved and all of my gospel music. I was watching Matlock DVD’s the night before, but I think those are gone. You know what? I am not taking it with me any way. God is good. He saved me, but it was pretty close. I close my eyes at night and still see the water. It was the closest I have been to the river in a long time. I am not bitter, I am going with the flow. Literally. I don’t have flood insurance and hope FEMA has a heart. It was time to clean out the house and renovate. I am just thankful for the kindness.”
Good enough isn’t an option. It’s got to be the best I can do.
“I even make my sandwich backwards. I put my bottom piece here and my bun here. And then whenever I eat it, my bottom...
