I ride this bike three miles from Whistler, across the bridge to the bus stop

“I live in Whistler, the buses don’t run up there any more. They used to run to the Prichard hub and turn around and come back. The people who live in Whistler and Eight-Mile have to get around the best they can. I ride this bike three miles from Whistler, across the bridge to the bus stop and put the bike on the rack on the front of the bus. I ride it back home too. I do it for everywhere I have to go, doctor’s appointments or work six days a week. The bus used to come right by my house and I could walk out of the door and catch it. People living in Chickasaw are in the same situation. If they don’t have a bike, they have to walk miles to get to the bus stop. They are leaving earlier to get to the bus. I get up about 3 a.m. I am kind of slow and it takes me a while. I take a shower, eat breakfast and leave my house about 5. It takes me 30 minutes to ride to the bus stop. I leave work about two and I am going to be show nuff hot and sweaty. I get wet when it rains and I got soaking wet yesterday when the bottom fell out. There is no cover and no place to sit and it doesn’t make the bus come any quicker when it rains. The bus will leave you if you are standing across the street under the shade and they don’t see you. They have to keep on schedule.”

“…it doesn’t make the bus come any quicker, when it rains”…I would love to know this man. He works hard and takes hardships in like they are etched into his DNA, an expected part of life. He is the kind of person I call a true hero. Someone like him makes me proud to be human!
