“We’re the Order Of Porta Pots (OOPP). We started getting together in 1996 at Spanish Park for Joe Cain Day in Mobile. I grew up nearby on Conception Street and remember when this park was built. The parades started behind our house, but they weren’t as big back then.
I painted these tents for OOPP and made my headdress–it’s a knock-off of Joe Cain. I like getting an idea and figuring it out. I work on telephone systems, but I’m close to retirement. I may get more creative after I retire.
I’ve been drawing since I was a kid. One day, I was in this park drawing pictures of the Civic Center, and a lady bought one. It’s the only art I’ve ever sold.”
