“I am having coffee with my granddaughter. We spend a lot of time together. I am and retired and play golf, read and exercise. I do a lot ‘of s and s’ing,’ sitting and staring. I spent 22 years in the Coast Guard doing search and rescue, I was a bankruptcy trustee and fooled around in politics in Fairhope for a little while. I was on the city council from ’09-’13 and four years was more than enough. I learned that people are fickle and they are never satisfied. They want what is best for them instead of what is good for the community. I can look at the positive things instead of the negative.
When I was in the Coast Guard, we helped during the Cuban exodus and did search and rescue during the 60’s. We found a lot of the refugees that were trying to escape, a lot of them we didn’t. They went to sea in old tubs. I have an anchor tattoo from the Coast Guard, when you are young you do some silly things.”
