“I have been a hostess on Sundays and holidays at the Grand Hotel for 11 years. I started folding towels for guests at the pool and they asked me to work in the dining room. I greet the guests and dance with the jazz band. People like to see an older person still having fun. They energize me and I energize them. I was a swimmer, golfer and tennis player but now I just walk and swim. I am 86 and still have lots of energy. I can’t turn it off. My friend is 102 and in a home in California and I am flying out next week to see her. She keeps asking her nurses when I am coming. I sold my home six months ago. It was too much and I went into an assisted living home. It wasn’t for me so I bought another house that is less to take care of. There are days that I hurt but life is good. I want to keep moving. I don’t want anyone to have to take care of me. Faith in God has always been there but it has become more important in my life. In the end, where am I going to go, what am I going to do? I believe in the hereafter.”
