“I was always intrigued by medicine. I played sports and was in and out of doctors’ and orthopedics’ offices with broken and sprained limbs. Okay I knew I wanted to be a doctor.
I am a second-year medical student at South, and I’m keeping open to what will be the best fit for me. Medical school is as hard as it seems, but I’m glad. When I take care of someone’s life or loved one, I want to get it right. There is a reward for tackling something, learning, and moving on. COVID has helped my class lean on each other and get through it. We are training in the worst of times, and we are learning to go to work and get through it.
My favorite moments are when I learn something that connects to the other pieces of the body. Putting the puzzle pieces together in my head means that I understand the material.
Being in the medical field is something I prayed for. God answered my prayer, and I am grateful for it, even during the rough times. Sometimes my prayer is just, “God, I am here. Thank you. Now help me fight through this.”
