“We moved here from South Carolina two years ago to work at the children’s hospital. I am a pediatric surgeon. It is a great privilege taking care of children. During my training as a general surgeon, I was taking care of a child with a ruptured appendix and the fissure never closed. We closed it with a simple surgery and when we removed the bandages and I will never forget the expression on her face when she looked down and saw it was gone. It is a privilege. Mobile has been good for me. I was wanted and needed here but it was a rocky start. One of my specialties is treating children with severe constipation. It causes a great deal of distress at a time when they need control of their body and environment. It is demeaning and distressing. The results we are getting are very good and it is gratifying for me to see children become normal. I have written papers on it and it may become the work of my life.”
