I am not perfect, but I had a second chance and am so blessed. I try to help anyone I can

“We have hot dogs, slaw dogs, turkey dogs, veggie dogs, cheeseburgers, Conecuh sausage and chicken salad. We also have wheat buns. I have been doing this for four years, Monday through Friday. I was inspired to start my own business for my daughter. I love the hot dog business and the interaction. Erykah Badu, the singer, is here for a show at the Civic Center and her engineer just bought a bottle of water. Doug Williams, the ex-NFL player, has bought a hot dog too. Of course Mayor Stimpson. I have had people from England, Australia and German. I had no idea it would grow into this. Two years ago someone stole both of my hot dog carts out of my yard and people donated money for me to have this one built and we named it ‘The People’s Choice Cart.’ The donors’ names are on the side of the cart. I am very grateful and blessed. I have one daughter and she goes to Tuskegee and she graduates next year in May. My business has been successful enough to let me take care of her and put her through college as a single parent. I cleaned houses before this. Five years ago I was in an abusive relationship and was forced to commit a crime but it wasn’t my decision. I was facing two years in prison, but the Lord delivered me. I told my daughter that if the Lord saves me from this trouble that I was going to open up my own business and show her that I could take care of both of us without any help from a male.I know it is hard for people with a record to find a job so I was looking for my own business. My daughter loves hot dogs, so I started a hot dog business named Bama Brickhouse Dogs. I now have 15 hot dogs on my cart. Every hot dog has a name. Miss Pretty Dog named for my daughter and Pretty Boy Charlie Dog is named for my brother who made the cart. The Get Away is chicken salad. The Ass on Fire dog is for people who like it hot. The Wayne Conecuh Sausage is named after the ATF agent who talked with me during my trouble times. He told me I had to have Conecuh sausage with grilled onions and Grey Poupon and it is a best-seller. I love the Lord. I am not perfect, but I had a second chance and am so blessed. I try to help anyone I can. When people get out of jail they come and eat here and I try to help them. I help homeless people and my family too. I help everyone I can because you never know when you are going to need help. I give officers of any kind and military a dollar off. You see the strangest things with the trials that happen here. People coming out of court or about to get locked up. Everyone has an opinion and wants to talk about it. I get an earful from the families. Victims and jurists all patronize me and the reporters come out here and talk so we get the inside scoop on what is going on. People who don’t want to be picked for jury duty talk about how they can get out of it. I listen a lot, this is almost like a counseling service too.”

She is an inspiration. I love her spunk, her spirit and determination. I am so glad she did not give up and continue down the wrong path. Everyone takes a wrong path at some point (some more treacherous paths than others), but the game changer is when you get the green light to travel the right path and you race to a new, productive life. Bravo to this sweet lady!
