I play music that keeps people happy and grooving

April 11, 2020

“I am Artist DJ Wildlife. My first name is Claude. I grew up in Mobile and was raised with all different types of music. My grandfather listened to country, jazz, 80’s, and classic rock. My dad listened to blues, soul, and funk. I explore all types of music. I regret not learning how to play an instrument. I used to make cassette tapes for people and could fix them. I went to school in Florida and started getting serious with it. My roommate was a DJ and when he left on the weekend, I got to practice on his equipment. I wanted to be a VJ on MTV.

I went into the Army to travel and see the world, but I was stateside the whole time. I DJed in Atlanta. I was invited to DJ in Argentina and they gave me a plane ticket. I was supposed to go for two weeks, but I liked the country and the people so much that I stayed for seven years. That was in Dec. 2010. I was in Buenos Aires. and it reminded me of New York a little bit. They are very family-oriented but Carnival in Argentina is out of control. I prefer Mardi Gras in Mobile. Because of my hair, I stuck out like a sore thumb. People knew who I was and had photos made with me. One was a nun. I was surprised by that.

My grandmother turned 100. That was a big deal and I moved back home. I found out Charlana Quiovers was my cousin. I started DJing for her at BackFlash Antiques and we had a great time during Art Walks. I try to play music that fits in with everyone to keep them happy and grooving. I want a positive atmosphere when I am DJing. Especially now. Everyone is bummed out being in the house. During this time of staying home with the Coronavirus, I am going live in Instagram every Saturday night from 5 to 9 at Saint Claude’s Social Club. I am trying to keep people in happy spirits. I want to travel the country DJ’ing at festivals. I did that in Argentina.

I have been trying to say positive while we have to stay home. I have been find more music and refining my sculpture technique. I hope to use this time to get better at the things I love.”
