“I was born and raised in Thornton. I am 51 years old. I was farming but the man went out of business. There is nothing left to do here. Thank God I bought my house before I was laid off and it is mine. I don’t have transportation to go to a job and there are jobs in this community. I just try to make it day by day. It is rough out here but as long as God opens my eyes up, He makes a way for me. Most of us are family in Thornton, there might be 20 of us. I don’t have lights right now. Can’t afford them. I was going to buy a generator but the government took my money. I hustle and work for anyone who needs things. It is raining today so I can’t wash cars. I am not on food stamps and don’t take advantage of people. I pray to the Lord. A friend told me I am going to have a blessing I won’t be able to hold.”
Good enough isn’t an option. It’s got to be the best I can do.
