Mobile is a melting pot, and I found some people who are a little weird like me

“I have always loved beads and collected masks, so being in Joe Cain for the second time with this group of pirates is still amazing. I am grateful that I found this group of people who are here for me and will do anything to help. They have become my family.
It’s a miracle I am still alive to do things like this. My mom was murdered when I was 18, and I spiraled into drug addiction, depression, and multiple suicide attempts to numb the pain. The last attempt led to losing circulation and losing my leg. I lost everything and everyone. I was living on the streets when I couldn’t stay with friends. I hit rock bottom with nowhere else to go, so I went up. That was 11 years ago.
I learned I could pick myself up and do life without depending on a crutch. It’s hard, but my eight-year-old daughter is watching me do this. My advice to others is ask for help and not to be embarrassed if you hit rock bottom, even a couple of times. It is possible to work through the emotional trauma and stress.
I lived in North Alabama most of my life, but I moved to Mobile about nine years ago. I found my group of people, and it was the first time to feel like I fit in. Mobile is a melting pot, and I found some people who are a little weird like me. “
