“I am 86 and have been married for 66 years. She lets me work in the mornings, but I am hers in the afternoons. I still can’t wait to get to the store, I must be crazy. I do the same job my dad and grandfather did and I tell people I keep trying to get it right, now it is my sons’ turn. Last year we were named one of the ‘Best Hardware Stores in America’ by Popular Mechanics magazine. I have a picture of my granddad in front of the hardware store in 1915. I love everything about Huntsville. When the arsenal came, it boomed. Big is not necessarily good and now we have all of the traffic problems, but I don’t want to swap my misery for someone else’s.”
