“I was at the gym and came down here to enjoy God’s creation. I have a bulging disk, so the more I exercise the better I feel. Sometimes we have to stop and smell the roses and get some peace and tranquility. We get so overwhelmed and we don’t know what tomorrow is going to bring, but I know what today’s is going to bring. I don’t take life so serious when I am here. I am a hairstylist, photographer and decorator. I get creative ideas out here and listen to what God gives me. I have always been creative, the first thing I made was a cake in Home Ec in 7th grade and won first place. I started barbering about 12-years-old and my parents gave me a chance to do it. They helped me find my purpose early. The passion of hair for me is recreating people. Some people get so down or don’t feel their worth or value and getting their hair done can help. I only book one client at a time so they have my full attention and we have time for conversation. They may need to talk or cry and I am there to listen and give advice. Some become friends for life and some are passing through, but they needed to be there for that time. We all need someone to listen and sometimes there are things you can’t tell your husband or wife, but you can tell your hairdresser. I do my own hair. I know I feel good when I do it.”
“How often do you change your hairstyle?”
“About once a month, usually not too drastic. Women often get stuck on a hairstyle. I have to respect that and still encourage them to find freedom to be themselves. Some want their hair 10 colors and I will do that too. I have to listen and know what they want. When they come to the salon, they want to be themselves and in control.”
