“I have worked here about ten weeks. I needed a job and saw the sign about hiring. I said to myself, ‘O Lord, no.’ But the starting pay is $9 an hour. That is better than minimum wage. Nothing is beneath me. I was an automotive technician before this. I worked at the same garage for ten years. I no longer enjoyed working there and it began to show in my work. The owner let me go and I didn’t blame him. I was ready to quit, but I didn’t have the nerve. I met someone here the other day that may lead to a job working with cars again. It used to embarrass me to see my friends walk in and have to ask them, ‘Do you want fries with that?’ but you get over it quick. They call me Grandpa here because they say you can always depend on Grandpa. People care and there is teamwork. It is fast moving and I need that with my ADHD. My main job here is burrito roller have gotten better at it.
Good enough isn’t an option. It’s got to be the best I can do.
