We get caught up and don’t get to do the fun things we want to do

“We were planning to go swimming this morning, but it was cloudy, so we went fishing instead. He is nine and caught a little something. I also have an older son who is 21. Life is busy. We get caught up and don’t get to do the fun things we want to do. I do cleaning jobs. Sometimes it feels like do I have to do this for the rest of my life? But there is also the satisfaction that you have done something good for someone. Then you are paid, done and gone. I am neat at home. We were taught to be like that. There is not enough time to get everything done. The bathrooms are clean and I clean my kitchen every night before I go to bed. It worries me if the dishes aren’t done and the counters aren’t clean. I grew up in South America in Suriname. I have been here for 11 years. It was hard to come. I have no family here. It’s not home, but it’s OK. It is a good place for children to grow up and be free. I was born in Guyana and wouldn’t go back there because there is a lot of crime. It is a scary place. My son gives me happiness. We fight a lot but at the end of the day, we are buddies. We recently started homeschooling for 3rd grade. We are trying to get it together. I hope we are doing it right. Send them to school every day and drop them off and it is a scary thought and you worry about them. Have them home and worry if you are giving them the right education. Is it enough? When they grow up, you can look at them and say they are well off. My oldest recently got married and they are doing good. We are learning sign language together at our church. This means I love you.”
