“We met in ninth grade in Moss Point. We dated in high school a little bit and then I dated her best friend. I went overseas to Germany and served my time with General Patton. While I was over there, she got married and my future wife was her bridesmaid. She was one of my best friends and I sent her a telegram that said, ‘I can’t throw rice from where I am so I will send my greetings by cablegram.’ She still has a copy of it. When I came back home, she had been married for about six months and I married her best friend. She was in my wedding. She and her husband and me and my wife lived next door in the same boarding house together. We stayed in touch with each other all of our lives. My wife died in 1992, six weeks before my son died. That was a tough time. Her husband died in ’96. We started dating again the next year and got married in 1998. We were 70 years old, and have been married for 20 years. We are going to be 92. I am like the little boy that says, I am three, but I am going to be four next year. We have been blessed with health, the ability to get around, and great-grandchildren.”
Good enough isn’t an option. It’s got to be the best I can do.
