When the gas prices are down, it is harder to live. Higher prices means more people have jobs

“I am unemployed right now and it is hard to find work. It is rough with the oil fields the way they are. He is a welder and they cut his hours so we are barely getting by and have to do things like fish that don’t cost anything. The economy is tough on everybody with layoffs and pay cuts and everyone is downgrading what they do. Not just the oil field workers. It is affecting everyone and it has been going on at least a year. Gas prices are finally going up a little bit. I don’t know how long it will take to go back up to where it helps us. When gas was over $3.00 it was good. I know it is a little harder filling up the gas tank when it costs that much, but when the gas prices are up, everyone can live. When the gas prices are down, it is hard to survive. Higher prices means more people have jobs. I had retail jobs. I worked at Tractor Supply as a cashier and enjoyed helping people and working with animals. I used to barrel race when I was younger and my passion is animals. Everything here revolves around sugarcane farming and oil field work. I enjoy living in South Louisiana. There is so much more to to do with hunting and fishing and a lot of things you can do with your kids that don’t cost that much. Most people are born, raised and stay here. I don’t see myself going anywhere else. This is home. Everyone has your back and are like family here.”
