Elizabeth is doing better than anyone ever thought. She is amazing

“Elizabeth was born full term. We found out after she was born that she has congenital CMV. It is the number one most contagious virus. It is very dangerous if a pregnant woman gets it. Apparently I got it early in my pregnancy and didn’t know it. We spent a week running tests at USA Women’s and Children’s and found that her brain didn’t develop properly. The diagnosis of cerebral palsy comes from that. She is six years old and about to graduate from kindergarden. She is doing better than anyone ever thought and she is amazing. Baldwin County and Mobile County have the most awesome teachers, doctors and case managers. They are the most wonderful people and I would never have met them if it weren’t for her and her diagnosis. It has been a rough road, but it has ended up being amazing. No one plans to have a special needs child, but by the grace of God, you do what you have to do every day. She is everyone’s favorite and is fun and brings out the best in everyone. We love her to death. We have three kids and she is my middle and we have to juggle a lot of doctor visits and therapy and you do the best you can. Everything happens for a reason and I don’t question that.”

“Are you this calm about everything ?”

“Yes. You want me around in an emergency. It’s a God thing. I work for an insurance company and work Monday-Friday, 8 to 5. They are so good to work for. Wonderful company, bosses and co-workers and they let me do what I need to do to take care of her. It brings out the best in everybody. I get to work full time because they understand. It makes me work harder for them because they are so compassionate to us.
