God kicked me in the teeth one too many times. It was time to listen

January 30, 2018

This week I am putting up a story about First Christian Church in Mobile. The church was dying but found its salvation in serving the poor and the homeless. It is a powerful place and there are many stories of changed lives and second chances. This week’s Souls stories will be some of the people touched by this church.

“I worked at the Grand Hotel when I was a kid. I have a master cosmetologist license and I used to own two hair salons. I got a divorce and got into drugs and went to jail. I realized God had kicked me in the teeth one too many times and it was time to listen. On March 14 I am 12 years clean and sober. I have been coming to First Christian Church for four years. I was homeless and living in tent city when I started coming and I cut hair to help the other people who came here. I had stage four colon cancer last year and over 30 percent of my intestines were removed as well as a tumor the size of a lemon behind my left eye. My surgeon told me I made his budget with all I had done. Thirty years ago I had Stage Four breast cancer and they gave me six weeks to live. After everything I have done and been through, I am still here. I am not a walking miracle. I am a testimony to answered prayer.”

God bless you. I am so glad you have found your way to freedom and peace in your life. As we grow older, our bodies start breaking down and body parts begin to decay…life gets tough, painful…but God is with us every step of the way, every day.
