I am 95, and this is my first Mardi Gras

February 18, 2023

“I am 95. I am from Pennsylvania, and this is my first Mardi Gras. My son-in-law is in the Knights of Mobile. I am riding in his parade and going to his ball on Saturday.

I was supposed to come last year, but I fell and broke a hip. I spent Christmas in the hospital and couldn’t come.  I am fit as a fiddle now.

I was 18 when I was sent to World War ll at the end of the war. I was in the American police and we worked with the German police

I came home and worked in the Pennsylvania steel mills for 32 years. I retired and then my wife passed away in 2003. After she died, I tracked down the girlfriend I had in Germany. Her husband had passed away, too. I was 85 and got my passport and a plane ticket and went to see her. She picked me up at the airport and took me all around. I went back several times.

Life is still full of adventures.”

Andy has returned with us to Virginia Beach and is already looking forward to Mardi Gras next year.
He doesn’t do much on a computer, so he asked me to send a big THANK YOU to the wonderful people of Mobile for making him feel welcome and special. Thanks to the Knight of Mobile for his wonderful ride and special recognition at their ball.
He had a wonderful time, and God willing, he will back again next year.
