I am a custodian and make things nice for other people

November 21, 2022

“I was a school custodian for 20 years in Indiana, but I got tired of the ice and snow. My wife and I moved to Gulf Shores, and I have worked as a custodian at The Hangout for about nine years. I clean the bathrooms and take out the trash, It’s a little messy, but I have a good time talking with the people coming through here. I try to be kind to everyone because we need it. Sometimes people even notice when the restrooms are clean. That makes me feel good.

I will be 78 next month. It’s a different world than the one I grew up in. I don’t even have a cell phone. Working is good for me. I like staying busy and making things nice for other people.”
