I am a server at Old Bay Steamer. I take it one table at a time

September 7, 2016

The kids just went back to school and I am relaxing before I go to work. I am a server at Old Bay Steamer. I have two girls, ages 3 and 5. We have a routine going, so it is getting easier. I like my job and keeping everyone happy. There are a lot of different personalities. I take it one table at a time. Anything else will confuse me and throw the kitchen off. I had to learn how to take my time. I lost my dad two years ago. He was really stressed out and had multiple strokes. The last one took him out. When I go through things now, I think about what my dad would say or do and that makes things a little easier. I can still hear his voice. My mom is moving back here from Mississippi in a month. Thank God. I want to be able to help my kids so they don’t have to work so hard and stress about everything. My mama taught me to never let anyone run me from my job. My old job was stressful but she said if they run you off, you will be jobless and they will still have a job. I like my job now and the food is good too. I eat there every day because we get 50 percent off. I like the ribs, shrimp and grits and shrimp quesadillas. I love to cook when I get home.”

Keep up the good work. Your mom is right. I want to add that you shouldn’t let anyone or anything steal your joy. Learn to dance in the storm because it is what makes us stronger and survivors.
