I am flying home to Boston to surprise my mama. I can’t wait to see the look on her face

“I am flying home to Boston to surprise my mama. I am going to call her when we land to make sure she is home and then knock on the door. I can’t wait to see the look on her face. She kept asking when I was coming home and I told her I was too busy. I haven’t seen her since May when I flew her home to Atlanta to see me. We are having a family cookout on the 4th of July at my Grandma’s house. She is the best cook. I am very close to my mama and grandma. My mom was a single mother and did the best she could. She is my backbone. I go to Georgia State to college because I had to get away from some of the distractions at home. I was doing well, but started going out with friends too much and got off track. I have a brother and sister in Atlanta, so I went there to join them. My GPA went up a point, it is on longer in the 2’s. No one in our family had gone to college, but my cousin and sister recently graduated, they were the first. We are starting a new generation of college graduates. I am changing my major from mechanical engineering to finance. I love math. I am paying for college with financial aid and the Hope Scholarship.”

“What is your dream for the future?”

“Just one? I have a lot. I want to be financially stable and then give back to my father’s side of the family. They live in the Dominican Republic. I can’t stand to hear people complain about things over here. The poorest here are like the richest over there. I want to find a way to help.”
