I am the 2015 Golden Gloves National Champion and I almost made the Olympic team

“I started waiting tables in January to save up for my Mormon mission trip. It is a big deal and a right of passage for Mormons. I am still working on the paperwork and then they will tell me where to go. I go in a year-and-a-half. I hope I can go somewhere and learn a new language. After I go on mission, I will go to BYU. I want to get a PhD in Psychology and work with gorillas and study their behavior, like Jane Goodall. I have always loved animals. I was obsessed with Koko, the gorilla that spoke sign language. Gorillas or music, I have sung in Carnegie Hall and have been in a few operas. I grew up in Anchorage, Alaska. We sold the house and bought a motorhome and traveled around the states. We sold the motorhome and bought a sailboat and lived there for the next three years. We ended up in Fairhope by accident. We were headed for the Bahamas, there was a storm and we took port here and we never left. That was eight years ago and this is my home now. I am so grateful for the traveling. I am also a boxer, I am the 2015 Golden Gloves National Champion and I almost made the Olympic team. My dad took me to the Olympic boxing trials in Mobile in 2010 and I fell in love with it and found a gym that would train me. It is a tough sport that takes skill. It is challenging mentally and physically and I am one of the only women boxers in Alabama. When I am in the ring and focused, I don’t feel most of the hits.”
