I drove down here by myself this time

December 15, 2016

I am a snowbird from Illinois and stay in an RV. It is 20 degrees back home and they had 8.5 inches of snow on Sunday. I am glad I am here. In 2012, my mom passed away and my husband and I had always hated winter, so we sold the house and bought an RV. We had to get rid of our furniture and many of our belongings. We didn’t have much left to decorate for Christmas. My husband passed away in March. We were married over 25 years and his death was a surprise. He was in the bed in the other room and started moaning but said he said he was okay. Then started a different moan and didn’t respond. He had heart problems and was a heavy smoker and died the same way his dad did. I drove down here by myself this time. I was always the one who drove before. I came with my cats and I am now the crazy cat lady. It is lonely and I miss my husband, but I still do the things I have always done. The first year we drove it down and he was making me crazy and I told him to let me try and I drove it for the first time. I get here in two days. it is about a 20-hour drive because you can’t drive over 60 mph.

RVers are a great people. They are friendly and always there to help. They come from different backgrounds. It never crossed my mind I would do this. It is an adventure. If you don’t like where you re, unhook and go somewhere else. I just want to go where it is warm in the winter and around the grandkids in the summer.
