“I get on the bus and ride around and see the city. Then I buy some peanuts and feed the squirrels. I grew up in Prichard. I was a construction worker and worked at Ingalls shipyard and Alabama shipyard. I poured the concrete we are standing on. I am 68 years old. I am waiting on the Man to come now and I try to take care of my high blood pressure. I go down to the park where the cool wind comes in. The tattoos on my arm are my children’s mama’s name. I had stepchildren and one son of my own but someone shot him down. It happened on December 4. It has been a year since he has been dead. He was 30 and I had to put it in the Lord’s hands. That’s all I could do.”
