“I have been a piano player in a band that played for several Elvis tribute artists, including the official Graceland tribute Elvis. One year we dressed as rock stars at the dueling piano place where I play, so I went as Elvis. I am at the point where I am thrilled anyone asks me to play. I play with my son who plays drums. Playing with him is special for him. I am also a para that works with special ed students who are multi-disabled. I help keep them up with their studies. I love working with children. I have been a youth director and a band director at a couple of schools. Everything I have done has been working with young people, it helps me stay young. I try to use music to help reach special needs children. We have a music time and I help them try to keep a beat and play notes. The teacher also plays guitar, so we have a good time. This is my first year working with special needs students. I have learned patience. Everything we do takes a lot of time. They get so excited when they accomplishment something, something that seems small to us is monumental to them. It is exciting to learn way to communicate with students who can’t talk and I had to learn from how they act and pick up the cues, they can’t tell you if they have a headache. At the end of the first year, I am much better at the start of the first year and hopefully by the end of ten years I will be much better than this year.”
