“I was off work today and came out here to be with my kids, my girlfriend, her grandmother and her grandson. I have two daughters and a son. I am a cook at Longhorn Steakhouse. Sometimes I cook at home. My girlfriend does most of the cooking, but I am the best cook. It can be hard to juggle work and kids. I get to be with my kids in the mornings, but it is good to have a day off where we are all here as a family. I almost didn’t come and now I am so happy I did. I was looking for a job two years ago and Longhorn gave me a chance and I have been there ever since. I am from Pensacola, but every day my girlfriend shows me something I like about this place. I like everything about being a dad, waking up to them, going to sleep with them. Swinging with them and teaching them competition. I was hoping I could be a good dad, but I didn’t know how it would work out. My dad did what he could, but he died when I was 14. I want to spend every moment I can with my kids. The little things like this are giving them lasting memories. I still remember some of the times I had with my dad and I want to make my mark too. My dad used to lay carpet and I would go with him to work. He paid me $10 to help him and that felt like a lot of money. He taught me how to cut grass and what to do with a lawnmower. He showed me how to be a man.”
