“I am from Ohio. I went to Oklahoma and drilled gas wells. I lived with my wife and two young children in a 22-foot travel trailer. Reaganomics shut down drilling. In 1983, I joined the Marine Corps. I went to Beirut and North Africa. I came down to work in the shipyard in 1993. I worked for Benders, Atlantic Marine, Austal and Ingalls. I have worked in 36 states. I went where the work was and did what I had to do for my four kids. My wife died seven years ago from ovarian cancer. We were married for 32 years. My brother had cancer and hung himself. I had stage four kidney cancer but now I am stage three. I have two stents in my heart. March 13 is my birthday, I will be 62. I came back down here to die because I don’t want to die in front of my kids. My blood clots can take me any time.”
Good enough isn’t an option. It’s got to be the best I can do.
