I won’t cut corners or cut anything short because if you do that, deep down you are doing it for the wrong reason

“Art is important in Mobile but it can be more expressive than a sunset or a pier. Life is more than what you just see on the surface. It is how you interpret things and how things affect you. Art is an opinion and it is going to catch Mobile up and bring us closer to the times. Art needs to be more accepted. It can open minds a bit and it is ok to think differently or just be different. Now is the time for that. It takes a lot of sacrifice of yourself to be an artist. I still beat myself up for any show. Is this good enough? I won’t cut corners or cut anything short because if you do that, deep down you are doing it for the wrong reason. It took me a while to get over the fear of rejection. Once you do that and get confidence, you are OK. It helped me to get out and travel. There are phenomenal artists here who have day jobs and don’t have time to create. As many good artists as there are, many are holding themselves back. They aren’t allowing the community to see what they are capable of doing and they scared to be expressive because they are different than the art that represents this area.. The more you do, the more you progress. You have to be comfortable with what you create. That energy flows into what you are doing. We need to have art that reflects the energy and love of the city. Mobile could become a destination and we need an art show here. Art will make us cool, fun and funky. I want to experience that in my town verses someone else’s.
